How To Organize A Piano Recital At Home

One of the biggest drawbacks of learning piano or any instrument through an online course, is that kids’ who do so, don’t often get the opportunity to perform in a recital.

However, it doesn’t have to be so.

You can organize a fabulous recital in the comfort of your home and in this post I will give you the exact steps on how it can be done.

Set A Date

First of all you need to set a date.

Make sure it is a realistic date, in the sense that it will give your child enough time to prepare for the recital, practice and be ready.

Also make sure that the date you pick is a date that will be convenient for any invitees, such as a Friday night or Sunday at noon or whatever date, which will work for any friends and family that you might wish to invite.

Select The Pieces

Once the date has been picked, don’t waste any time, select at least 3 – 4 pieces that your child will play.

If you have more than one child who will perform in this recital then select at least 2 – 3 pieces per child.

Again, make sure the pieces are those that are in line with what your child is capable of performing. The pieces that are selected should not be too hard or too easy.

Practice Until You Can’t Get It Wrong

The third step is to start practicing immediately. Choosing the date, selecting the pieces and beginning the first practice can all be done on the same day.

However remember, that practice has to be ongoing and consistent.

So carve out 10 minutes per day, everyday up until the day of the recital to practice.

Remember, the goal is not to practice until you can get it right, but rather to practice until you can’t get it wrong.

Choose Your Best Clothes

Help your child to select his best clothes. Think of a fancy recital. You can even find some on YouTube of professional instrumentalists performing.

Discuss their choice of clothes with your child and then ask him to select the clothes he thinks would give the same type of impression.

Don’t be scared to encourage him to choose the fanciest set of clothes that he may have.

Invite Friends, Make It Fancy

It is important that your child feels important, so go all out to make it a fancy event.

Fancy doesn’t mean expensive, but fancy does mean giving it a lot of thought and making it special.

So create invitations if you want and involve your child when coming up with the guest list.

Decide on any refreshments that you might want to provide for the audience. Create a program, which includes your child’s name and the pieces he will be performing.

Basically make a big deal of this concert.

Have A Blast

On the day of, remember to praise your child for all the hard work he put into practicing.

Tell him, not to get flustered if he makes a mistake, but to continue on.

And most importantly remind him to have a blast!

Does your child feel nervous when performing in front of others? This is normal, however,  if you think it might help, please read my post on 4 Incredible Strategies To Help Your Child Overcome ‘Butterflies’ When Performing.

Now, don’t just read this post and forget about it.

Play Piano Today!

Teach your child to play piano, today.

Yes, in as little as 30 minutes I can show you how to teach your child to play the piano, for FREE.

What are you waiting for?

This program reminded me (and allowed me to teach my son) how to read music. To me, that was the most important thing that we learned together. Of course, it was very rewarding for me to watch my son play the piano with both hands at the same time, while reading sheet music. His favorite parts of the course were actually playing the songs and doing the worksheets provided.
