Adding composer studies into your homeschool curriculum is one way to add to Music into your curriculum and get your children interested in the same.

However, many homeschool parents remain baffled on how to do this, especially since there are a myriad of sites that teach composer studies, but they are overwhelmingly difficult to navigate through.

So in this post, I decided to give you four strategies on how to incorporate composer studies into your homeschool routine without too much trouble.

The first and easiest way to do this is to..

Read Composer Biographies

Yes, it is as simple as that.

Imagine, all you have to do is borrow a book on composers from the local library and read through it at your child’s pace and they automatically learn about the composer and will want to know more about the compositions, the era in music that the composer lived in, the different historic facts and more.

Through this simple act, you would not have only introduced your child to the composer but also to a variety of different subjects.

Don’t have any interesting books in the local library and would like to purchase a book? Then hopefully my post on Composer Biographies For All Ages, might be useful in pointing you in the right direction.

Take A Composer Studies Course

If you can find an age appropriate composer studies course, then by all means take it.

Don’t know where to find one?

Then please check out my FREE  Classical Composers Course, and learn about three of the greatest composers of all time.

The course is ideal for kids aged 4 – 14 and is complete with biographies, videos, research projects, printable and quizzes.

Create A Playlist Of A Specific Composer

This should not be too difficult.

With so many platforms like YouTube, Amazon, Spotify and more, you can pick one composer like Beethoven of John Williams for instance, and then create a playlist of all his/her compositions.

Don’t have any subscriptions and can’t find good FREE playlists online? Then read my post 7 ‘Genius’ Ways To Add Movie Musicals To Your Homeschool Library, and you can use the same ideas to add CDs to your homeschool music library.

History, Geography, Museum Visits

This final strategy I think will be a ‘no brainer’.

The next time you teach your children history, have them research the composers from that era.

Same goes for geography. If they are learning about Austria for instance, have them research some of the famous composers from Austria, when they lived and their contribution to music etc.

If you go to the museum for instance, you can look up for music and composer related facts that might be available.

Play Piano Today!

Teach your child to play piano, today.

Yes, in as little as 30 minutes I can show you how to teach your child to play the piano, for FREE.

What are you waiting for?

This program reminded me (and allowed me to teach my son) how to read music. To me, that was the most important thing that we learned together. Of course, it was very rewarding for me to watch my son play the piano with both hands at the same time, while reading sheet music. His favorite parts of the course were actually playing the songs and doing the worksheets provided.
