Whether you are musically trained or not, whether your kids play an instrument or not, do you know that there are many different ways in which you can bring more music to your home?

A question that I often seem to get from many moms who read my posts is,

“How am I supposed to add music when I have no clue where to begin?”

Well, I’m here to say that you can do it and it’s not at all difficult.

In this post I will share three really fun yet crazy simple ideas to have your home filled with music in absolutely no time at all.

Yes, it is as simple as singing together, watching a musical and taking a dance class. That’s it. Let me elaborate.

Sing Together

Yes, just like that.

You don’t have to be musically trained to sing. I know that some of you may say you can’t even hold a note or pitch a single key and that maybe absolutely true.

But really, can’t you even sing a simple nursery rhyme?

Ohhh, I see those light bulbs going off now.

Of course you can sing simple tunes, so let’s start there.

But wait, you don’t have to stop there. Here are some other methods you can employ to bring the joy of singing to your home.

– Karaoke – If you have a karaoke, then have a weekly karaoke session. Who cares if you sing off key? If you can stick to the rhythm, that’s still something better than nothing, isn’t it?

– YouTube – Create or find a playlist on YouTube and use it as an accompaniment when signing.

– CD – Still have a CD player at home? Use it and sing along with your favourite artists. Don’t be self conscious and you will see that the kids join in willingly.

– Playlist – Create your own playlist on your iPod, iPad or any other device or platform and start singing right now.

Watch A Musical

Now, why didn’t you think of that?

You can have a Musical Movie night, once a month. Bring out the popcorn, have some amazing snacks, bring the whole family together and get started.

Here are some of my favourite Musicals, but please don’t be limited by them, just do a search online or go to my article – 12 ‘Must See’ Musicals Categorized by Age and pick out what works best for your family.

Before I move on to the next idea, let me just name my all time favourite musicals so you can get started right now.

– Mama Mia – I grew up on ABBA though they were before my time and were from my parents’ era. My parents played ABBA all the time and hence I fell in love with their music.

– Greece – Again another movie from my parents’ era, that I love.

– The Sound Of Music – This is loosely based on the true story of the Von Trapp family and is a ‘must see’ movie.

– My Fair Lady – Based on the book by George Bernard Shaw, a movie from my grand parents’ era that I simply cannot get enough of.

Want guidance to watch a musical? Then download my printable (I have one for different ages) that you can use. Use it before, during and after the musical and get the most musical value out of it.

Want to source Musicals, but have a limited budget? Then read my article on 7 ‘Genius’ Ways To Add Movie Musicals To Your Homeschool Library for Pennies On The Dollar.

Take A Dance Class On YouTube

Yes, take a dance class. Whether it is on YouTube or any other platform, dancing teaches so much about rhythm and beat and movement and will also give the entire family a fantastic workout.

So try it out right now.

So, what do you think? Is it doable? I would love to hear your feedback and what other methods you employ when adding music to your home.

My daughter loved the games, but there were also worksheets and videos. The weekly lesson plans were complete, and I never questioned what I should be doing next.

Play Piano Today!

Teach your child to play piano, today.

Yes, in as little as 30 minutes I can show you how to teach your child to play the piano, for FREE.

What are you waiting for?

This program reminded me (and allowed me to teach my son) how to read music. To me, that was the most important thing that we learned together. Of course, it was very rewarding for me to watch my son play the piano with both hands at the same time, while reading sheet music. His favorite parts of the course were actually playing the songs and doing the worksheets provided.
